NEEDLEJACKER'S GUIDE TO NEW EDEN FREEPORTS

NEEDLEJACKER'S GUIDE TO NEW EDEN FREEPORTS

DISCLAIMER

This guide was found in the floating rubble of a destroyed Citadel, ironically once a freeport itself. The doomed structure sat somewhere in the Placid region overlooking the gate to Syndicate, but that's not relevant to this tome. Just let it be said that the authors of this guide are unknown and accept no responsibility for lost ships, missing implants, destroyed cargo, ruined standings, sudden declarations of war, mysterious clone and medical bills, involuntary factional realignment, or the discovery that the "freeport" you were heading towards was actually owned by someone who has been waiting twelve hours specifically to shoot you.

Remember:

A freeport is not necessarily free.

It merely means someone else paid for the privilege of putting a large structure in space.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

New Eden is a large and deeply unreasonable place.

There are empires. There are pirates. There are industrialists. There are religious fanatics. There are people who fly 100 billion ISK ships into high-security space because they are convinced nobody will notice.

They are usually wrong.

The systems below have been selected for their freeports, manufacturing facilities, markets, refineries, clone services, logistical usefulness, historical notoriety, a nice place to store your goods before you have to reclaim them from asset safety, or because somebody apparently decided that putting a structure there was a good idea.

The entries use:

Security — the displayed security status of the system.

Freeport facilities — known basic facilities, some other resources may be available on request.

Why you're here — what makes the system useful.

Historical note — relevant history, geography or local reputation.

Jacker's warning — the information the authors feel you should know immediately before undocking or entering the systems listed.

Current static-system data comes from CCP's SDE, which contains the universe's solar systems, regions, constellations, stargates and related data. The authors do not have or claim to have ownership rights of this data.

THE DEEP END

9WVY-F

Security: -0.8

Region: Dronelands

Classification: Null-sec. Extremely null-sec.

Dronelands Freeport East

Owner: DJ's Retirement Fund

If you have reached 9WVY-F by accident, you have made a navigational error.

If you have reached 9WVY-F deliberately, you have made a lifestyle choice.

The Dronelands are Rogue Drone territory, a region where the principal inhabitants are machines which have developed the admirable biological instinct of wanting to dismantle you. The great irony of the place is that despite being called the Dronelands, there is generally considerably more human screaming than drone screaming.

Jacker's warning:

Local sovereignty, cynos, bubbles and roaming gangs are considerably more important and quite rabid here than CONCORD's opinion, because CONCORD's opinion is approximately:

"We don't work here."

F9-FUV

Security: -0.7

Region: Etherium Reach

ICS Ackaroth We Will Miss You

Owner: DJ's Retirement Fund

Etherium Reach is one of those places where the map starts looking less like a map and more like a warning label.

F9-FUV is deep null-sec territory and consequently operates according to the ancient laws of New Eden:

Somebody owns it.

Somebody else wants it.

Somebody is probably already shooting at somebody.

The person who says "it's quiet here" is about to become content for a killboard.

The structure's name provides a touching memorial note, although exactly how touching it remains after your pod is smartbombed is left to the traveller to decide.

Jacker's warning:

You are not protected by distance. Distance merely gives people more time to notice you.

LXQ2-T

Security: -0.1

Region: Etherium Reach

Dronelands Freeport West

Owner: DJ's Retirement Fund

LXQ2-T sits at a popular tourist entry point into Etherium Reach and has historically changed hands between major null-sec organisations on multiple occasions. Current map data shows the system under Rote Works control, with a sovereignty hub and an active refinery/cloning/industry installation.

This is therefore an excellent example of the central principle of null-sec real estate:

Everything is temporary except the structures somebody forgot to unanchor.

Jacker's warning:

If the local sovereignty map looks complicated, that's because it is. If it looks simple, check again. Check the killboard as some of the outgates are popular spots for camping parties of notorious space pirates and some not so notorious ones.

THE GREAT INDUSTRIAL HIGHWAYS

Aakari

Security: 0.7

Freeport Raitaru — New Eden Freeport Investment Group

Freeport Reprocessing Station — New Eden Freeport Investment Group

Aakari is the sort of place that exists because somebody looked at a perfectly respectable solar system and thought:

"You know what this needs? More industry."

The Raitaru and reprocessing facilities make it useful for pilots who would rather manufacture things than explode them.

This is a recurring theme throughout New Eden.

Airaken

Security: 0.5

Reprocessing

Owner: Tradors'R'us

A 0.5 system is technically high-security space.

This is an important distinction.

It does not mean safe.

It means CONCORD has agreed to arrive eventually.

Airaken therefore occupies that particularly useful band of New Eden real estate where industrialists can operate while haulers can pretend they aren't nervous.

Reactions & Reprocessing

Owner: Oblivion Watch

Ah.

Amamake.

Few names in New Eden require so little introduction.

Amamake is a notorious Minmatar low-sec system in Heimatar and a long-standing centre of faction warfare and PvP. It has served as a major staging area for powerful alliances, including Pandemic Legion, and has repeatedly been fought over by the Amarr and Minmatar militias.

It has also developed a reputation for being one of those systems where the local population regards a ship entering the system as an invitation rather than an inconvenience.

The system's history includes major capital fights, faction warfare campaigns and the sort of violence which makes the phrase "just passing through" sound like a confession.

Jacker's warning:

If you see an unusually large number of combat ships on scan, don't ask why.

You already know why.

Locals are known narcotics and combat booster addicts. Further, flying without a head full of implants and hardwires is seen as extremely strange to the local PvP crowd. Again, best not ask why.

Amo

Security: 0.5

T1 Shipyard

Owner: PJS Holdings

Amo is the headquarters system for the Gallente faction-warfare side of the modern pirate-insurgency landscape and has considerable strategic importance despite its deceptively respectable security rating. Local guides specifically identify Amo as one of the faction-warfare HQ systems.

Which makes a T1 shipyard rather appropriate.

Amo manufactures ships.

People take those ships to war.

The ships explode.

Amo manufactures more ships.

This is what economists call a healthy economy.

The company apparently subscribes to the theory that the best place to conduct commerce is everywhere.

Barira

PushX Freeport

Owner: PushX Citadel Holdings

PushX has long been associated with courier logistics, meaning Barira is particularly attractive to people who have bought something in one system and would prefer not to personally transport it through several systems populated by people who own Catalysts.

A revolutionary concept.

Basgerin

Security: 0.4

Kingdom of Heaven

The Armory

Owner: Oblivion Watch

The Forgery

Owner: Oblivion Watch

Basgerin is low-sec, which makes the name Kingdom of Heaven particularly optimistic.

The system sits within the wider low-sec network around the Gallente/Minmatar conflict zones, where "heaven" generally means a station with a clone bay.

Historical home of the legendary Basgerin Pirates. Best to check they are not actually home when paying a visit.

Botane

Security: 0.9

IChooseYou Market and Industry

Enjoy it.

CIRCUIT OF RUST

Kelutral

"Kelutral" is particularly appropriate in Minmatar cultural terminology, referring to a traditional gathering place associated with the Sebiestor.

So this is effectively a freeport with the name:

"Come round ours."

Eystur

Hek

Hek is one of the great Minmatar trade centres and a major mission and commerce hub. Hek VIII is home to the Boundless Creation Factory, while the wider system is a familiar destination for pilots operating around Metropolis.

It is also a useful example of how EVE's apparent safety can be deceptive.

Hek is busy.

Busy systems attract valuable cargo.

Valuable cargo attracts gankers.

Gankers attract people who complain about gankers.

Those people attract forum posts.

The cycle is eternal.

THE BORDER REALMS

Intaki

Security: 0.6

Prospero

Owner: Tiendala Inc.

Intaki is far more significant than the freeport entry might suggest.

It is the ancestral home of the Intaki people and the political/cultural heart of the Intaki region. The wider Syndicate region grew out of Intaki political and criminal influence and now forms one of New Eden's great NPC-null environments.

For capsuleers, Intaki also represents a major gateway towards Placid and Syndicate.

Which means it represents a gateway towards:

Orvolle.

Which represents a gateway towards:

PF-346.

Which represents a gateway towards:

poor decisions.

Orvolle

Security: 0.7

IChooseYou Market and Industry

Owner: Tradors'R'us

Orvolle is in Placid, in the Beyt constellation, and is a particularly important gateway system.

Current map data lists four stargate connections, including one directly to PF-346, the notorious Syndicate entry point. It also hosts Federation Navy, Federal Administration, Scope and Federal Defense Union facilities.

The system is therefore simultaneously:

high-sec;

Gallente;

busy;

industrial;

strategically important;

and one jump from Syndicate.

Which is rather like putting a nursery next to a bear enclosure and then wondering why the children keep coming home with cuts and bruises, if they come home at all.

The Syndicate chokepoint around Orvolle is well known as a place where gate camps are common. The gate to low-sec Oulley is also a dangerous gatecamp system. Check the map before entering.

Jacker's warning:

Check local before jumping to PF-346 and Oulley.

Then check it again.

Then ask yourself why you are going there.

PF-346

Security: -0.4

PF-346 Freeport 222

Owner: Deliberately Ignoring Common Knowledge

A brief summary of the history of PF-346

PF-346 is one of the most historically lethal and infamous star systems in the EVE Online universe. Located within the Z-6NQ6 constellation of the lawless, NPC-controlled Syndicate null-sec region, it serves as a notorious choke-point entry right next to the high-security Gallente system of Orvolle.

Alongside its neighboring system, it forms the dreaded "FD-MLJ/PF-346 gauntlet," a region famed for brutal ambush tactics that have claimed hundreds of thousands of capsuleer ships over the span of two decades.

The Early Era & The Birth of the Gauntlet (2003–2005): In the earliest days of New Eden, PF-346 and FD-MLJ established a reputation as a literal graveyard for unsuspecting pilots. It was one of the absolute first places where the concept of the permanent "gatecamp" was perfected. CONCORD famously issued warnings to pilots that empire laws did not protect them beyond this point, cementing its cult status as the birthplace of the gatecamp and the frontier edge of known space.

The Age of the Great Alliances (2006–2018): As the game matured, PF-346 became an invaluable strategic asset. Because the Intaki Syndicate region is largely unclaimable NPC null-sec, holding control of its main entry pipe meant controlling the flow of trade, contraband, and logistics between the outer rings and empire space. It regularly saw massive localized fleet engagements, such as the 2006 blockades involving groups like Goonswarm, the Mercenary Coalition and Omerta Syndicate. In 2016, the system was selected as an Astrahus Exemplar Site during the Upwell Consortium's research drive to test the first capsuleer citadels.

The Sheriff Shifts (2019–2025): For a vast stretch of time, the heavy-hitting alliance The Initiative. and their close associate lapdogs, maintained an iron grip over the system's incoming traffic. This dominance was famously broken up during a dramatic turf war when local independent corporations successfully clashed with them to claim the title of the "New Sheriffs" of PF-346. During this turbulent era, various pirate groups have operated in the system.

The Caldari Navy Incursion (2026): In a massive lore shift, the Caldari Navy launched a heavy sovereign offensive into the Syndicate region. Claiming the region as an unincorporated State territory, the offensive forced local Intaki Syndicate authorities to flee. This triggered the Syndicate Breakout event, turning PF-346 into a highly active war corridor as capsuleers intercepted fleeing capital fleets.

FREEPORT MARKET AND CLONES

An important clone-and-market facility in the relative safety of a 0.5 system. This is the sort of thing that makes logistical pilots happy.

It also makes people who enjoy killing logistical pilots happy.

Everyone wins.

The gateway to Catch and the infamous system of HED-GP.

Jacker's warning:

Because it is the primary funnel for traffic entering Catch, the gate leading toward or coming from Keberz is historically swarmed by hostile gatecamps, interdiction bubbles, and rapid-tackle ships waiting to catch haulers and unsuspecting visitors.

As a strategic chokepoint, alliance defenders and roaming pirate groups frequently watch this pipe, using insta-locking setups and smartbombs to destroy pods, exploration frigates, and slow freighters the moment they land.

Nourvukaiken is a major Caldari high-sec system on the route towards Tama and low-sec. It is also a recognised mission hub, with Caldari Navy, State and related activity.

The Tama Doorstep Inn is particularly reassuring.

Historical accounts of the system include faction warfare, major capital incidents and some of the most notorious low-sec fighting in EVE.

This makes the Svarog industrial facilities simultaneously useful and absolutely terrifying.

PERIMETER: THE JITA GATE

Perimeter

Security: 1.0

Scrapyard

Owner: Ivy League Alliance Holdings

Tranquility Trading Tower

Owner: Tranquility Trading Corporation

Perimeter is effectively Jita's front garden.

It sits immediately outside New Eden's greatest trade hub and is one of the busiest high-sec systems in the cluster. The old Tranquility Trading Tower became one of the most famous player-owned market structures in EVE history.

The original Keepstar was deployed in Perimeter in YC120 and became the centre of a joint commercial arrangement involving several major alliances.

Then, in June 2023, the original TTT was destroyed following CCP's high-sec XL-structure changes and a war declaration by The Initiative. CCP itself recorded the destruction and the subsequent restructuring of the Tranquility Trading Consortium's operations.

The lesson:

Even the largest freeport in New Eden is temporary.

The market, however, is eternal.

And Jita local remains Jita local.

Uedama is one of the most notorious suicide-ganking systems in New Eden. It is arguably the single most infamous ganking location, with enormous volumes of ship destruction resulting from its position on major trade routes.

It is a crucial choke point between major high-sec markets, especially on routes connecting Jita with the wider cluster.

The freeport is called GET PAINTED.

Villore is much more important than its final appearance in this list suggests.

It is the capital system of the Gallente Federation, with the capital planet Libertopolis. CCP's lore records the decision to move the Federal capital to Villore during the implementation of the Further Federation Act.

Current map data lists Villore as a 0.9 Gallente system with extensive infrastructure and a large number of planets, moons and NPC facilities.

It is therefore a rather splendid location for a freeport named:

Dancing Around The Stars

Because after several thousand years of interstellar politics, one should occasionally stop to enjoy oneself.

AND FINALLY...

The great freeports of New Eden are monuments to the peculiar genius of capsuleers.

Empires build stations.

Corporations build infrastructure.

Alliance leaders build citadels.

And capsuleers build enormous floating structures with names like Kiki's Broomstick Factory, Chunkzilla Refinery, The R&D Space Party and 5 Times Nearly AT Winners, then wonder why nobody takes civilization seriously.

The truth is that New Eden does not really belong to the empires anymore.

It belongs to whoever owns the citadel you are currently docking in.
